The editorial board of the Ghana International Journal of Mental Health launched a journal on Mental Health on 28th January, 2010 at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. It was highly attended by academics and other health professionals from the University of Ghana Medical School, Department of Psychology (University of Ghana), Pantang Hospital, Accra Psychiatric Hospital , a representative from the ministry of Health and Professionals from the community.

Dr Samuel Ohene, the Head of Psychiatry Department of the University of Ghana Medical School applauded the launch of the new journal and stated that a new journal on mental Health is a significant step in disseminating information on mental health.

Dr. Akwasi Osei, Chief Psychiatrist at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital commented that “a new day has dawned on us and we must ensure its survival; we shall keep it current and alive for a long time to come; we will build on it.”The birth of a Journal on Mental Health is a great privilege for Ghana and Africa as a whole, which will throw more light on Mental Health and related cases:, he further stated.

Dr. Angela L. Ofori-Atta, a Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Ghana Medical School chaired the occasion.
